Zack Snyder’s 300 made it to blockbuster status this weekend, as the movie about the epic battle of Thermopylae debuted with ticket sales totaling over $70 million. 300 beats that darn Ice Age curse as now becoming the top selling movie ever in the month of March. Hooray.
CBS made an interesting comparison for the $70 ticket sales saying, “That’s about $233,000 for every one of the legendary 300 Spartan soldiers who fought off a much larger Persian force in the epic battle.”
Well done, CBS. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
300 wildly outnumbered the previous 2007 films so far this year & reigns on top as the best seller. Here are the actual numbers:
1. “300,” $70 million.
2. “Wild Hogs,” $28 million.
3. “Bridge to Terabithia,” $6.9 million.
4. “Ghost Rider,” $6.8 million.
5. “Zodiac,” $6.77 million.
6. “The Number 23,” $4.33 million.
7. “Norbit,” $4.3 million.
8. “Music and Lyrics,” $3.8 million.
9. “Breach,” $2.6 million.
10. “Amazing Grace,” $2.5 million.
I think that Wild Hogs being #2 just proves that America wants more (& better) family movies. Someone get on that!

March 12th, 2007 at 9:58 am300 is getting more good press than it deserves. I just did a review of 300 over at Highbrid Nation if you care to read it. In the end it was just another movie that did not live up to the hype to me. Can we say “poor man’s Gladiator”? Most people will likely disagree with me though, lol
