June 24th, 2007 at 11:31 amAFI’s list is a joke. While I’m glad that they included a few omissions from the last list (The General, 12 Angry Men, Blade Runner…), and pushed some of the deserving films higher up (Vertigo, Raging Bull, The Searchers…), the list is still full of films that are not deserving of being listed as the best American films ever.
What’s not worthy (not that these are bad films, but they are not deserving);
The Sound of Music (1965)
MASH (1970)
The French Connection (1971)
Cabaret (1972)
American Graffiti (1973)
Rocky (1976)
Sophie’s Choice (1982)
Tootsie (1982)
Forrest Gump (1994)
Toy Story (1995)
Titanic (1997)
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Lord of the Rings (2001)
What’s Missing (or what could replace those mentioned above);
The Awful Truth (1937)
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
His Girl Friday (1940)
Out of the Past (1947)
The Night of the Hunter (1955)
The Sweet Smell of Success (1957)
Touch of Evil (1958)
The Magnificent Seven (1960)
The Hustler (1961)
In Cold Blood (1967)
McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971)
Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
The Terminator (1984)
