The Aviator star Leonardo DiCaprio desperately wants veteran movie director Martin Scorsese to win an Oscar for his work in The Departed. DiCaprio feels that it’s “ridiculous” that the acclaimed filmmaker has never won an Academy Award.
Scorsese has directed such greats as Taxi Driver, Mean Streets & Raging Bull & has never received the honor of being an Oscar winner, something Leonardo calls, “almost a practical joke.”
32-year-old DiCaprio who has starred in three of Scorsese’s movies says, “It would be wonderful if this film was rewarded, I think it very much deserves it. And I certainly think (Scorsese) does. It’s quite long overdue, almost a practical joke at this point that that hasn’t happened.”
Interestingly Scorsese seems to know where to put the importance of his work, saying, “I learned a long time ago, with Mean Streets and Taxi Driver, that you can’t make a film to get the golden statue. And if you try it doesn’t work.”
You tell me- Does Martin Scorsese deserve an Oscar for The Departed & should he have received an Academy Award long before now?
