[...] The first half of Jason X isn’t so bad. I enjoy seeing “traditional Jason” running around the Grendal, killing off those stupid kids. Indeed, this film has a number of fantastic kills in it, as well. My favorites would have to be the liquid nitrogen face-smash, the impalement on the giant drill bit, and the double sleeping bag-kill (an homage to Part VII). Kane Hodder also delivers one of his best performances as Jason (yeah, you heard that right). The first half of the movie is quite tolerable. [...]

[...] Now, what do we all watch Friday the 13th films for? Answer: the kills. Part III has a number of good kills, like hot pokers, machetes and pitch forks to the gut, but it also has *the* kill. There are a lot of awesome kills throughout the franchise, like the sleeping bag kill from Part VII or Julius’ decapitation from Part VIII, but the one most-noteworthy kill in Part III ranks as my all-time favorite. A character named “Andy”, while standing on his hands, gets cleaved in two from the crotch to his shoulder. The kill is edited perfectly, with the best camera angles (Andy looking upward at Jason with his machete raised in the air), believable special effects and is just so magnificently brutal you’ll have to rewind your video and watch it over and over.
[...] There’s a lot of dodgy camera work and special effects throughout the movie, too. Jason tends to “teleport” all over the place while chasing teens. He ascends a ladder in a mere handful of seconds and somehow materializes inside the second floor of a building before the person he was chasing gets there. The special effects aren’t noticeably bad until the ending and Jason’s unmasking segment. His face looks downright pathetic; a far cry from the excellent make-up effects of Part VII.
[...] Personally, I love the direction Part VI takes Jason’s character. He was always ugly and unstoppable in the past, but now he’s all those things to a whole new extreme. The whole “zombie”-thing may sound stupid, but the zombie-era of Jason actually has many of the best films in the franchise and the majority of the best kills. The only real downside about the zombie-era is that the Friday the 13th franchise eventually becomes a series relying solely on movie-to-movie gimmicks (having Jason fight a telekinetic, Jason visiting Manhattan, Jason going to Hell, Jason in Space, Jason fighting Freddy, etc).
