[...] Okay, so the opening narration loses a good chunk of its scare-power without the creepy voice and spooky forest, but you get the picture. Tales from the Darkside, the TV series, was one of my all-time favorite anthology horror shows, right up there with the likes of Tales from the Crypt, Monsters and the Twilight Zone. It’s hard to count the number of fantastic episodes it featured, and much to my joy, the Movie is actually just as good as the best episodes of the television series. [...]

I think it is safe to say that the movie gets better as it approaches the end. The one thing I didn't like about "It's a Good Life" was that it was such a radical departure from the original Twilight Zone episode: in the starring role, Billy Mumy was basically the child-god for the universe and debuted by making the whole world, save for his town, cease to exist. Here, he is remarkably less powerful and only has a hold on his town... but what he can do is still sufficiently messed up. Of the movie anthologies that I have seen, Twilight Zone the Movie is obviously Spielberg-esque (though more reminiscent of Zemekis) and watered down, but it's still incredibly well-rounded.
