8 Male Celebrities Who Have Had Plastic Surgery

August 11, 2019 by Lucia Janssen

Celebrities, by definition, live their lives in the public eye.  With so many eyes on you all the time, it can be difficult to keep a level head about your appearance as you age.

Some celebs just get a little lift here and there, but there are those who go a little overboard with their augmentations.  Plastic surgery is more popular among men as every year passes.  If you’re like the rest of the world, you’ve probably noticed some male celebrities who fit this category.

Augmenting your look is a staple of the A listers’ lifestyle, it seems.  Time an again, you see botched nose jobs, oversized lips, and other protruding appendages be hacked on by plastic surgeons.

5 Movie Scenes That Captured Very Real Moments

November 10, 2016 by Robert

When you watch a movie you assume that every word spoken was in the script and the director and actor preplanned every reaction captured.  These 5 movie scenes are a few examples of how that is not always the case and some movie scenes have very real moments.

Alien

Anyone who has watched the original Alien movie knows about the infamous chestburster scene, which produced some realistic responses from the characters in the film.  Before filming the actors were only told that something was going to happen but they were not told what.  The actors had no idea that a creature would burst from John Hurt’s chest or that they would be showered in gore and blood.

Apocalypse Now

In the documentary Hearts of Darkness made about Apocalypse Now, it was revealed that the opening scene that depicts the brutal breakdown of Martin Sheen’s Captain Willard was far more real than anyone could imagine.  The scene was shot on Sheen’s birthday, and the actor was so drunk he really smashed his head.  The breakdown as well as the blood was all real.

Fight Club

Director David Fincher likes to capture authentic reactions on film and did so with one particular scene in the movie Fight Club.  In the beginning of the movie, stars Brad Pitt and Edward Norton have a fight outside the bar.  Norton was not supposed to actually hit Pitt, but before the scene Fincher pulled Norton aside and asked Norton to actually hit Pitt.  When Norton hits Pitt, the reaction is real.

The 40 Year Old Virgin

In the now famous scene where actor Steve Carell gets his chest waxed, Carell opted to actually get his own chest hair waxed on film.  Though many actors would have opted to remove their hair in less painful ways and then worn fake chest hair to complete the scene, Carell wanted to make the moment as authentic as possible.   Carell stated in an interview, “That was 100% real.  We set up 5 cameras because we knew it would be one take…and it was not scripted.” His painful reaction is funny and very real.

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory

In this classic film Willy Wonka, portrayed by Gene Wilder, shows off his chocolate room to the contest winners for the first time.  The scene is filled with looks of genuine amazement from the other actors in the scene.  Their looks and reaction to the room are one hundred percent genuine as none of the actors were allowed to look at the set of the candy gardens and chocolate room.

So the next time you watch a film and a scene seems so authentic, or an actor has a genuine reaction, it may just be the real deal.

The Beat of the Feet: Shoes On Television and Film

July 6, 2016 by Truman

As important as shoes are in real life, it’s no surprise that they hold a special place in television and film. Whereas a lot of attention is paid to actor’s expressions, voices, and script, there’s a lot to be said for those extra details that make everything believable and immersive, and small things like footwear can do that trick.

For a few illustrations of the overall importance of this topic, consider that there are entire shows that feature shoes of some sort, that they often have thematic importance in movies and film, the foley work that goes into good film sound, when they get focused on, and their importance in niche martial arts movies. Cigar Smokers You’ll See On the Screen

March 11, 2016 by Truman

In this day and age, we’re all aware that smoking as a habit is bad for your health and the health of the people around you. It’s expensive, the smoke damages inside environments, etc., etc., etc. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t, as film and TV watchers, appreciate the sentiments and the energy that comes from an on-screen smoking scene or character. It’s part of our cultural lexicon, and shouldn’t necessarily be judged from a hyper-realistic perspective.

To that end, some of the more famous cigar smokers, specifically, that you’ll see on the screen include Hannibal from the A-Team, Wolverine, Tony Montana, Gomez Addams, and Tony Soprano. In each case, the cigar or the habit was part of the emotional plot line, and can be appreciated as such. [Read more…]
