September 16, 2015 by Truman

2015 has been a pretty good year for horror films. The remake of Poltergeist was great, and there are plenty of sequels for those that love franchises, like Paranormal Activity. While some people may be excited for Sinister 2 or Insidious 3, there are plenty of new stories to be told.

The Halloween season is here in the stores, and in the crisp air, so it is definitely time to check out some great scary movies and get in the mood for witches and werewolves, and other things that go bump in the night. If you enjoy horror movies, here are a few yet to come out this year that just might make the hair stand up on your neck.

Review: The Flowers of War

June 9, 2014 by Truman

If there’s one highly acclaimed movie about the Second World War, it has to be The Flowers of War. Inspired by a novel based on a personal account of the wartime events, the film delves on the experiences of women when China was invaded by the Japanese and how the Nanking massacre occurred.

Directed by Zhang Yimou, the movie featured English actor Christian Bale on the lead role playing the character of a mortician named John Miller who found refuge in a group of women including school girls and prostitues and helped them escape from the Japanese soldiers. Filming took place right in Nanjing, China and lasted for six months.

And yet, renowned filmmaker Ang Lee and screenwriter David Magee have done the impossible: The Life of Pi film is manages to capture the most of the novel’s emotional depth. [Read more…]

Download Movies without Guilt: Public Domain Films

May 15, 2012 by Will Pease

Film piracy is a hot topic. The entertainment industry is obviously against it and has moved for stricter penalties for piracy. The recent SOPA issue illustrates how desperately these entities want to control content that is available online.

There are those, on the other hand, who think that piracy should not be a penalized. This has created a lot of debate for and against piracy. If you think that all movies that are downloaded online that do not go through legitimate distribution services like Netflix are considered as acquired illegally, then think again. There are many movies that have entered the public domain and thus you can movies online without fear of breaking the law. [Read more…]

European Horror Films You Should Check Out

October 27, 2011 by Will Pease

Halloween is just around the corner and you’re probably already preparing for your Halloween parties. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and ever since I was in college, I’ve made it a point to have a horror movie marathon on October 31. In fact, it has become somewhat of a tradition in my home that my old friends eagerly anticipate our annual horror movie fest.

One reason why my friends love the horror movie marathons I host is the diversity I provide them. They’re sure to watch a movie they haven’t seen before and not the tired old Hollywood horror movies that everyone knows about.

If you want to host your own horror movie marathon and want to give your friends a real movie treat, why don’t you get some of these great horror films that were made in Europe. They probably haven’t heard anything about these movies, which will make it a scarier experience for them. [Read more…]
