Well, it wasn’t quite an Oscar, but Martin Scorsese’s gangster film The Departed as well as the independent road comedy Little Miss Sunshine pocketed awards from the Writers Guild of America Awards show in Los Angeles Sunday evening.

Writer William Monahan won Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on The Departed & Michel Arndt took home the Best Original Screenplay award for Little Miss Sunshine.

The Best Documentary Screenplay was won by Amy Berg for Deliver Us from Evil.  The Sopranos writers (the lot of them) Mitchell Burgess, David Chase, Diane Frolov, Robin Green, Andrew Schneider, Matthew Weiner & Terence Winter won the Best Dramatic Television Series award, while the writers of The Office won the Best Comedy Television Series award.

Ugly Betty also received a Writers Guild Award for Best New Television Series.

Congrats to all the winners!
