News: Wildstorm takes license for Jason comics

July 16, 2006 by Mark Pellegrini

Avatar Friday the 13th comic

DC Comics subsidiary line, Wildstorm (famous for comics such as the Authority and Wildcats) has taken the license to produce comic books based on New Line Cinema horror characters from the previous license-holders, Avatar Press. Wildstorm is owned by Warner Bros, as is New Line Cinema, so it would only make sense for them to want to keep the characters in one of their own comic book companies. Wildstorm has announced plans for a Friday the 13th comic series, though no news yet on whether they plan to release A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre comics, as well.

The source for this news is Avatar’s writer and artist-himself, Mike Wolfer.
