5 Most Outrageous Pieces of Jewelry Used in Movies

November 2, 2015 by Truman

Everyone knows that the star-studded life can be more than a little diamond-studded. But sometimes the jewelry pieces chosen by directors can be more than a little outrageous when you see them on-screen. Sometimes the jewelry is exorbitantly expensive, sometimes obsessed over and other times it is simply beautiful. Included here are a few of the most outrageous pieces of jewelry that have been used on the big screen.

Keira Knightley’s Brooch

Keira Knightley was incredibly memorable in her portrayal of Anna Karenina, but perhaps did not shine quite as brightly as the diamonds. Knightly called up her connections at Chanel to gain access to jewelry for the movie, and boy, did they put out! Knightly wore a brooch in a scene where she is home and supposedly pregnant that was worth over $2.5 million. In addition to this brooch, Knightley revelled in the wearing of multiple other million dollar necklaces during filming.

Kate Winslet’s Heart of The Ocean

While Kate Winslet managed an eye-catching performance in Titanic, her talent may not have been quite as valuable as the jewel she wore. Known as the historic “Heart of the Ocean,” Winslet wore a diamond necklace that historically originated at the end of the French Revolution. While the “token” was meant to help Winslet swoon for a wealthy man, she inevitably found herself head over heels in love with a starving artist.

Marilyn Monroe’s Diamonds

In one of the most iconic odes to materialism ever recorded, Marilyn Monroe revels in being decked out with diamonds as she stars in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. With a dance between suitors, Monroe sings that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” putting to rest the classic idea that canines might have earned that spot. Monroe seemed not to care about the distorted view being placed on human relationships in favor of looking sparkly.

Men in Black’s The Galaxy

While this is not technically a piece of jewelry, it does have the appearance of a small charm. This token is actually an entire galaxy of peaceful beings that occupy the space of a marble on a cat’s collar. The entire premise of the movie Men in Black revolves around Agents J and K trying to save this galaxy and buggy aliens attempting to destroy it.

Julia Robert’s Ruby Necklace

As Roberts is made over on-screen in Pretty Woman, Richard Gere places a delicate ruby necklace around her neck to complete her jaw-dropping ensemble. Roberts’ necklace was a custom piece created by French jeweller Fred Joaillier which showcases vividly crimson rubies. With 18k white gold, 23 rubies and diamond accents it is understandably just the thing needed for her “wow”-effect.
