“Heroes” enter “Cloverfield” territory

Look at the picture above. Isn’t that Claire from Heroes? What is she doing holding a tumbler of Slusho? If you are in any way remotely familiar with pop culture you will immediately see the significance of that picture as well as a few others that have been posted on Greg Beeman’s blog. In a stroke of cross marketing genius, the characters of Heroes have had their pictures taken holding the fictional drink that first appeared in JJ Abrams’ Alias, and will reportedly play an important part in Abrams’ new movie project Cloverfield.

A lot of speculation has been running rampant on the internet with regards to Slusho. Some tend to echo the old Blob-inspired horror movie The Stuff in forging a link with the drink and the monster that will be the central character in Cloverfield. Whatever it is though, Abrams is creating a lot of buzz with the way he is marketing the movie. I see more interesting gimmicks coming from Abrams and company in the run-up to Cloverfield’s opening date in January.
