In defense of Traveling Pants

August 21, 2008 by Polly

Critics are slamming “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2” for its implausible plot. But come on, it’s a chick flick. And, a chick flick for teens. A great majority of the people who’ll flock to the theaters think Miley Cyrus is the best thing that happened to music, and doodle their crush’s name on the margins of their History notebooks.

The movie plays right into the teen’s world, with its fantasies, fears, and generally sunny view of life. Of course the plot’s implausible. But do you really want a 15 year old to be as cynical as the rest of us? Give them their childhood, for goodness sake, including movies that are slightly sugarcoated. They’ll have plenty of time to grow up and face reality — both on and off the screen.
