Rowling Sets Potter Filmmakers Straight

July 9, 2007 by Michael

rowling_j_k_photograph.jpg When the creative team behind the latest Harry Potter film wanted to cut a character, J.K. Rowling had to set them straight…

“There was a character we had cut out, and we had discussed that amongst ourselves,” Heyman said in a press conference while promoting the film in London. “And then Jo read the draft, read the screenplay, and she said, ‘You know, I wouldn’t do that if I were you. Or you can, but if you get to make the seventh film, you’ll be tied in knots and it will cause you some difficulties.’ So she made sure that that character [survived].”

When asked which character it was, Heyman played coy. “I figured you might ask the question. I’m not going to say,” he said.

It’s nice to see the creators of the films staying in touch with Rowling and working together. So many times the original creators of the works are just sort of tossed aside it seems.
