Christopher Reeve achieved worldwide stardom when he played the title role in Superman at the age of 25. Prior to this he had had roles in college plays and then at the renowned Julliard College. Casting directors has previously rejected Reeve three times for the Superman role before the casting director pleaded with the director who eventually gave in. Following a meeting between Reeve, the director and the producer, Reeve was sent a 300 page script. He then went for a screen test after which he was offered the role. The film grossed over $300 million and Reeve received positive reviews. He went onto star in a further 3 Superman sequels and others include Somewhere in Time with Jane Seymour which he considered to be his best film and Street Smart for which he received his first Academy Award nomination. Two key scenes missing from new Potter movie

December 3, 2008 by Will Pease

Harry Potter purists who want to see every single scene they read on the books on the big screen will surely be up in arms upon hearing this bit of news from the Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince set.

Apparently, two pivotal events in the book will not be shown in the movie adaptation. One is the battle that takes place inside Hogwarts, and the other is Dumbledore’s funeral.

According to producer David Heyman, the battle was deliberately left out because they didn’t want a repetition of a key event. In the seventh book, there is also a battle inside the school grounds and they feel that this is the more important event. The funeral scene on the other hand, was left out because the film team felt that the ending they had thought up for the movie is the right one.

What do you guys think? A wise move or a catastrophic omission?

Deathly Hallows turns into two movies

I don’t know how Harry Potter fans will take this news. According to producer David Heyman, the last potter movie, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows will be divided into two movies.

Heyman explained that the two-movie approach was the best one among a number of options that they were toying with. One option had the movie running for almost four hours but Heyman said that even though Potter fans would have tolerated the length it is still too much for little children to sit through such a long movie. Another option was to remove key elements of the last book but Heyman also said that this was not a good idea. He shared that unlike in other books where certain subplots were dispensable, Deathly Hallows provided a lot of answers and resolutions that the only way to do it justice is to leave it as is. The desire to be true to the book is mainly the biggest reason for the decision to divide the movie into two. JK Rowling was consulted about this decision and she supposedly gave her support for the two-movie concept.

Development of the script is only now being undertaken because of the recently concluded writer’s strike — and this is where the next glitch happens. Expect a year and a half of waiting in between Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows movies. This delay, I guess, is the one thing that Potter fans will complain about the most.
