Thor 2 Getting Script Rewrite

January 11, 2012 by Will Pease

Thor was one of the more accomplished superhero movies last year. Okay, the bar I may have set is low but you’ll be surprised with how many superhero movies still manages to fail to meet the standards I’ve set (I’m looking at you Wolverine).

I loved the fact that Thor was directed by accomplished actor/director Kenneth Branagh, who is actually a personal idol of mine. He engaged me with his tactic to inject a little Shakespearean tragedy to the Thor movie, which other directors would have ignored. Unfortunately, he won’t be back for the sequel. [Read more…]

JJ Abrams Talks About Star Trek Sequel

December 26, 2011 by Will Pease

JJ Abrams just came from the explosive new Mission Impossible sequel – Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. But even with the new Mission Impossible still being shown in theaters worldwide, Abrams is already hard at work preparing for the Star Trek sequel.

Abrams is notorious for being quite secretive about any of the projects that involve him so it’s not a surprise that he is playing his cards close to his chest for the Star Trek sequel. But even with such strong resolve not to reveal anything, Abrams is still providing some very interesting information – one that is just enough to whet the appetites of Star Trek fans and science fiction sons.

First, Abrams said that the script for the sequel is ready. The writing team is composed of Damon Lindelof, Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The sets are also being put up, and by next month, the director—known for being an exacting perfectionist—will be ready to shoot. He said the sequel will have several improvements from the first:   “I’m hoping that as we do the next one, all the mistakes that I’ve made that I’ve hopefully learned from, I can bring to this one and hope make it better.”

Though Abrams is a big fan of the IMAX format (he says it’s his favorite) he did say that they will start filing in 2-d before doing a high end conversion. With the film’s generous production timeline, he and his team will have a lot of time to tweak both the content and the format to meet his high personal standards.

John Wayne, James Coburn, and many other traditional cowboy types have starred in at least one Wild West comedy, but they often fail. It’s usually the ordinary guys, or the professional comics, who shine in movies that combine cowboys and comedy.

Here are three of the best:
